JOURNEY INTO THE DUTCH BOLLENSTREEK

Bollenstreek Dutch experience Lisse
GIANT TULIP BULBS

I have lived in Sassenheim for 6 years till 2023. Now I live in Rijsenhout, which is only 15 minutes away from Sassenheim by car (or 50 minutes by bike). Every other week I go to the Sassenheim/Lisse area for walking, supping, shopping or have something to drink.

The Bollenstreek, known for its fields of colorful flowers, is one of the most beautiful and iconic regions in the Netherlands. This region stretches from Leiden to Haarlem.

My passion is always to explore new cities or villages (in the Netherlands and abroad). Most important and for me that is one of the challenges to find things to do without spending too much money or looking for activities to do which are for free. Why spend so much money on places that are crowded and expensive when the Netherlands has so much to offer in no charge/or a small fee activities. Most smaller castles, museums or outdoor activities charge money as the building needs to be maintained and often supported by volunteers.

MY URGENT ADVICE !!!
TO ANYONE WHO FEELS THE NEED TO TAKE SELFIE INSIDE THE FLOWER FIELDS
:

Before you read more about the things to do and see in the Bollenstreek, I want to stress out with emphasis on being respectful to keep the beautiful flower fields in tact and making sure everyone can enjoy looking at the colourful fields for years to come.

It is more an AWARENESS of what the effect is of people walking through the flower fields for the sole purpose of taking a selfie within the colourfull and famous flower fields.

⇒ Did you know that you are trespassing when you walk into the flowerfields?

⇒ Flowers can be damaged and getting sick from the chemicals that might be underneath your shoes. This can be avoided by taking selfies from the side of the road/at the end of the flowerfields.

⇒ Farmers work hard day and night to make sure we can enjoy the colourful fields (from a distance). Not only it is their property but also it is a major effect on their income when part of the their crop is destroyed by people who damage and break the flowers or damage and pollute the soil.
