If you love art, flowers, and exploring charming Dutch towns, you’re going to love this!
All around the Bollenstreek region, you’ll find giant, hand-painted tulip bulb sculptures. They are bold, colorful, and full of personality.
These XL tulip bulbs, known as Reuzenbollen, are part of a public art project celebrating the rich flower-growing heritage of this beautiful area.

What Are the Giant Tulip Bulbs?

Each bulb stands approximately 1.90 meters high and 1.50 meters wide. Everyone is individually painted by a Dutch artist and tells a unique story from floral designs to local history and abstract modern art.
The project was initiated by Museum De Zwarte Tulp in Lisse and is supported by municipalities, local businesses, and cultural organizations. There are now more than 80 tulip bulb sculptures scattered throughout towns such as:
  • Lisse
  • Noordwijkerhout
  • Noordwijk
  • Hillegom
  • Voorhout
  • Sassenheim
  • Warmond
For more information and the Giant Tulip Bulbs and where you can find them, visit the Gildemeesters Bollenstreek website.
You can explore the Giant Tulip Bulb Route by bike or car. It’s a fantastic way to explore the Bollenstreek at your own pace especially during tulip season in spring, when the flower fields are also in bloom. However, whether you’re visiting during tulip season or any other time of year, these sculptures offer a joyful, photo-worthy experience.

 Why I Love This Project

I’ve lived in the Bollenstreek for 6 years now, and I love a good challenge especially one as creative as this! The first time I spotted one of these giant tulip bulbs, I was hooked. Each one brings a smile to my face. Each one feels like a small celebration of creativity, local pride, and the floral culture that makes this region so unique.
I’ve made it a personal mission to find and photograph as many of them as I can. The colors, the stories behind the art, and the playful surprise of discovering a new one.

I invite you to start your own journey and see how many you can find.

If I have hint. If you visit the Kasteel Keukenhof, you will find one.
